Happy Monday! This is our last full week of interning which sounds kind of crazy. This morning I stopped by the dollar general near work to grab different kinds of command hooks so that we could hang up our reusable balloons around the volunteer appreciation sign. After an initial failed attempt, Molly and I were able to get those hung up. We put a table underneath with thank you notes that people would fill out under it. During this time I noticed that there were no Look Good Feel Better flyers out on the first floor. Molly printed some of those off for me and I put them on tables, and then replaced the standing displays that had the growing together signs on them with the LGFB since that event was over. Following this we went up to Amy’s room. She wanted help making final tweaks for the partner meeting and for the board meeting that she was also having during lunch time. After this Melissa, Molly, and I went downstairs to get all of our UCBC Cares stuff out of the social work office. We loaded up Melissa’s car and brought all of that over to the Breast Health building. After unloading, we went upstairs and talked to the volunteers during shift change because Melissa was sweet enough to bring everyone bundt cakes for volunteer appreciation week. Then we had some blog catching up to do. In addition to this, during the meeting we got the date for Kickin for a Cure out kickball tournament, so I am now able to continue to work on that content.

Good morning. Happy last tuesday of interning! Today we were down in Molly’s office until about lunch time just working on social media because we still have a lot to do before our last day on Monday. I was finally able to get the photos off the website into a higher resolution quality so I was able to finalize all the posts. I made save the dates, sponsor posts, open for registration posts, a flyer, and different spotlights for each event in anticipation. I used the social media calendar to plan tentative dates for when these should be posted before beginning on the captions. Then we headed over to lunch. Proceeding lunch we all had a meeting with Shelby, a new intern for the foundation. We were showing her our system and how everything works. Then Melissa went home and I went downstairs with Molly to listen to her give an exit interview for a student in experiential learning. Then I started organizing different templates for social media all into one folder from Melissa and I’s separate canva logs. Then we went with Molly to breast to organize everything that we had brought over earlier in the week into our actual UCBC Cares closet, and then I left for the day!

Happy Humpday! Last Humpday of the internship sadly. We had a rough morning because we were out of wifi for about an hour. We assisted Molly with a couple of volunteer schedules before she releases shifts tomorrow morning. Then we prepared the Jen Allen Spirit of Service award for Mrs.Becky. She cannot attend the event on Friday to accept her award so we still wanted to honor her. We rallied up all the volunteers and a bunch of staff to celebrate and Molly gave a speech to honor her, and of course we took pictures. Following this Melissa and I worked on continuing to wrap up our social media of the year. The new sweatshirt merch arrived during this so we grabbed a cart and helped unload. We then went into a meeting with social work to go over how great the Growing Together event was. Even though I was not able to attend, it was so great to hear about it and still give feedback on how to incorporate maybe older kids into next year’s event. Then I grabbed some lunch and further unloaded the new sweatshirts into a storage closet. I had to leave at 12:30 this day so I could not help organize them.

This morning I arrived and went straight to help Molly with the sweatshirts. We boxed them up and brought them to the third floor conference room because we were going to distribute them. We started doing some sales while also having our CFA breakfast. Melissa and I really wanted to wrap up the year of social media so we got to work all morning. I worked on all captions being completed by the end of day before I left.

Happy Friday! Today is the Jen Allen Spirit of Service award day. I came in at around 12:30. The event in itself was already set up by Amy. Molly, Melissa and I all collabed in Molly’s office to just chat and wrap up some social media intern things. The event itself was at 2. We welcomed staff, volunteers, and the Jen family and presented the award to Ian. He is one of our volunteers that goes above and beyond. We wrapped up and officially wrapped up social media as well. Melissa made a quick recap and then we left for the day.
Weekly Summary and Reflection:
2.4.2 Develop materials needed for implementation.
During this final week of interning we created a wide range of materials to support the program after we leave. Social media for events in the future, share templates, materials for volunteer appreciation week and assisting with merchandise all week
4.2.2 Interpret evaluation results for program improvement.
This week we had a meeting to go over the outcome of the growing together event. We specifically discussed how we could engage the older children better in the program. We also finalized both the board meeting presentation and the partner presentation.
6.5.6 Use digital media to engage audience(s) (e.g., social media management tools and platforms).
We finally finalized the full calendar of social media content. This includes the date of the post, captions, a link to the graphics, and instructions for all social media until December. The system is high quality and accessible for staff in the future.
7.2.3 Demonstrate leadership through independent initiative and problem-solving.
This week we onboarded a new volunteer into our social media world. We had an entire meeting to walk the intern into the system so that they could participate and ensure transition efforts are a smooth send off.
7.3.7 Facilitate the engagement and retention of staff and volunteers.
This week was volunteer appreciation week so there was a lot of engagement. I helped support with set up and decorations, with the week of social media, thank you notes, and the Jen Allen Spirit of Service Award.
Reflection:
I wanted to be here every day this week for the internship because it was my last week. It is surreal how quickly time has flown by. I am so grateful for the community here and how much I have learned from Melissa, Molly, and Amy. The Jen Allen Spirit of Service Award specifically was one of the highlights of the week, I am so glad this was part of our timeline. I love our volunteers and have loved getting to know them so it was a great event. I am also incredibly proud of Melissa and I for wrapping up the entire year of social media. At the beginning there was definitely a point in time where I wrote on this very blog that I was not sure how we were going to get this done, and we did. It has been a privilege completing this internship, time has flown by and I am very proud of this team.
