Week of April 13

Monday, April 13

This morning I forgot my badge so I headed straight up to the 3rd floor to borrow one from the volunteers. Here I noticed that a lot of the name cards we put up of the volunteers were not stuck to the wall anymore. So I got some tape and got to work. Then everyone was here so we gathered in Amy’s office to go over social media. We did this on Thursday so I did not really think it needed to be done/ was a pretty slow meeting. Then we had a meeting with Charissa at 11 for the Growing Together social work event. This meeting lasted around an hour. We went over a lot of the logistics of the event and then made some suggestions about where things should go, what volunteers should do, and the route. Then it was time for lunch! We grabbed some Newks, it was yummy. I started working on the pickleball logo and content following this. I wanted it to match the same content as Strollin’ for the Colon, because that was executed pretty well and it’ll make the feed look consistent. After this, we had printed Look Good Feel Better flyers for the upcoming event. On the second floor infusion floor there are private rooms and cubbies where patients get their infusions. We thought it would be a good idea to start putting flyers in these actual areas, especially since we do not have the time to go into every infusion area at all times of the day. Following this, I checked up on all the volunteers before heading out for the day!

Wednesday, April 15

This morning I started off by helping Amy with an errand to Breast to get some supplies for the Growing Together event. We spent a lot of the morning communicating with our patients, including two really special families that Amy knows. Today we had a meeting with social workers because of Growing Together, we went over final logistics, families, and supplies that needed to be gathered.. This was the same day that the elevators broke down. So we spent the last 2 ½ hours assisting with patients with the elevators and stairs.

Thursday, April 16

Today was a more crafty to-do day for me! All morning I created Amy’s partner meeting presentation. This is showcasing everything we have done in 2026 and how our contributions are helping in the community. This took quite some time. She gave me some tweaks and pointers and then we wrapped it up for Monday. Additionally today we celebrated Cassandra and Caroline’s birthday. That was a pleasure, we had to do some distracting and decorating. Then I was tasked with creating a sign for volunteer appreciation week. I painted a sign on some paper that we are hanging up in the volunteer check in room!

Weekly reflection and summaries

2.1.2 Facilitate collaborative efforts among priority populations, partners, and stakeholders

This week UCBC Cares collaborated with social work to finalize plans for this week’s event called Growing Together in partnership with Kesem. We mapped out the event and continued with our meetings to go over responsibilities and logistics or what needs to be done

2.4.2 Develop materials needed for implementation

This week I helped create multiple things. Starting off with the partner/board meetings necessary for 2026 impact. I also helped create work for volunteer appreciation week. Lastly, ensured Look Good Feel Good flyers were literally everywhere.

5.3.4 Develop partnerships and collaborations to improve health outcomes

We partnered with both social work and KESEM to host a different kind of family event. These interactions and partnerships are necessary to support the organization and community.

6.3.3 Tailor message(s) for the audience(s)

This week I distributed flyers in the cubicles and private rooms of the infusion floor. The placement was strategic enough so that it can improve outreach and hopefully engagement in the event by having the flyers in a more clear view.

7.2.3 Demonstrate leadership through independent initiative and problem-solving

I was fixing issues I recognized without needing direction this week. I fixed social media displays, the fallen volunteer decor, and assisted in the elevator outage.

Reflection:

I loved that this week I was able to use my creative ability to make a sign for volunteer appreciation. It was fun collabing my creative ability with my intern work. I enjoy projects like that. This was also my first time creating a presentation. Normally Melissa is here more often and when is asked knocks them out. But I loved creating that for Amy and feel like I did a great job and proved myself that I could present knowledge in a professional way. I have over tme become more confident in my ability to adapt to unexpected citations which are critical skills I need in the future.
