Week of 2/23- 3/1 Matched with Competencies and Reflection

Monday, February 23

Happy Monday, started the morning off by touching up my weekly blogs! Then we had our normal Monday meeting with Amy. We posted for Strollin’, made touch ups, caption edits, Growing Together content, etc.. Amy wants pictures to be larger than what I was making them so we touched them up. She got pulled into a meeting so I started working on a St.Patricks day post. Not sure why this took all morning, but it did. We went down for lunch and that took a very long time as well. When we came back up Amy had me working on a schedule to go to all the Gastro, Primary Care, and Non Profit clinics in Athens. I put them in a time efficient order. After that we started ordering everything for Strollin’. We had poop balloons, stickers, photobooth props, cowgirls, hand clappers- basically a bunch of things to keep the walk more interactive and cheerful.

Wednesday, February 25

Happy Wednesday! Today was a good, booked, and busy day. When I got into the office there wasn’t a whole lot delegated so I just started to work on social media. I created all the captions for April posts so that we could begin working in May. Then I started making May content like graduation posts and World Ovarian Cancer Day. Then Amy asked Melissa and I to help as a first floor volunteer because we were so busy today. As we were down there we greeted patients, assisted in where they needed to be, and built relationships with the volunteers. Following this we had Ron Lambros Ministries come. Bridget, Ron’s wife, provided 120 CFA lunches for us to hand out to patients and caregivers. We started by going around the infusion floor, then radiation, first floor, third floor, 700, and one last lap on infusion and first floor. We were able to hand out all of those free lunches! This took a good bit, but it was so fun. Everyone was grateful and this was a great morning. Following this I went downstairs and started doing some stuff for Amy. Was trying to come up with a design for the colonoscopy prep booth at Strolllin’, she asked me for a short Strollin’ meeting agenda, and then for advice on what to create a presentation for for her manager meeting Monday. After this Molly printed out more Strollin’ flyers and I cut them before heading out.

Thursday, February 26

This morning we met at the Oconee office for another Strollin’ for the Colon meeting. This meeting was more all ears. I chatted and threw in some insight when I could. Melissa would show me some social media content, and I would kind of glance at those, as well as, wrap up some captions for the content. We stayed over there for a bit before I headed over to the Breast Health building where I did a count of our table clothes, I am assuming are for Strollin’ for the Colon. I went back to 800, where Molly recruited us to put out and distribute all of the bottles of Ensure. We had some cases going bad shortly and our patients sometimes drink those religiously! Following this, Melissa wasn’t well so she left. Molly and I were pulled into a meeting with Amy, where we were tasked with getting Stick it to Cancer Rock Lobster Hockey game promotion out ASAP. We were unsure this was our original responsibility so we needed all gears pumping. We also kept working on a Strollin’ booth sign. I then went to Sam’s for Molly to pick up some snacks for the different satellite locations. It was pouring rain so this took quite some time, over an hour. I came back, unloaded, and lastly before I left, I put the stick to cancer registration link in our link tree.

Week of 2/23- 3/1 Matched with Competencies and Reflection

2.1.2: Facilitate collaborative efforts among priority populations, partners, and stakeholders

This week I attended another Strollin’ for the Colon planning meeting at the Oconee office. I assisted in promotional elements, and chimed in as needed. I supported collaboration with a ministry- Ron Lamrbos, during lunch distribution for the patients. We smoothly delivered 120 meals to patients and caregivers across the floors.

2.4.2: Develop materials needed for implementation

I created April and May caption calendars and planned out days to post. This included world ovarian cancer day content, st.patricks day, and graduation posts. I also helped Amy with Strollin’ agenda as well as her partner meeting agenda. Worked on the colonoscopy prep booth sign

3.2.4: Deliver health education and promotion as designed

We assisted this week as first floor volunteers where we greeted patients, helped with navigation and wheelchairs, and supported the engaging waiting area.

6.3.3: Tailor message(s) for the audience(s)

We had a last minute social media content for the Stick it to Cancer, rock lobsters game. We originally weren’t doing content for that game. So we made that then also put a registration link that was added to the linktree platform.

6.5.6: Use digital media to engage audience(s) (e.g., social media management tools and platforms)

Finalized April captions, began May content.

7.2.3: Demonstrate leadership through independent initiative and problem-solving

Created an outreach schedule for the gastro, primary care and other non profits across Athens. I counted inventory for Strollin’ and distributed ensures to patients and patient areas. I completed a Sam’s Club run.

7.3.4: Manage resources efficiently and effectively

Assisted Amy in ordering materials for Strollin’ for the Colon this included balloons, props, signage and inventory.

Reflection:

This week was fun and balanced. We had to start doing a lot of long term planning as well as get some immediate demands done because of last minute interventions. It has been really cool seeing how the community comes together for this foundation and the amazing relationships Amy and Molly have created. From Ron, to the Breast Cancer Support group, there has been a lot of people pouring into our cup. I loved how Amy asked me for advice and just doing stuff with her, it made me feel genuine on my opinion mattering.
