Monday February, 16
Happy Monday! Today was sooo foggy outside. I was scared of getting to work. This morning I worked on my blog reflection and summary. Following this we had our meeting with Amy, so I made sure to have captions for the Strollin’ speakers, National Doctors Day, and Breast Cancer Support Group. We caught up a bit on the weekend. We made a plan for exactly what UCBC Cares and our team is doing for the social work Wonders and Worries event. Following this Melissa and I went downstairs to work on Molly’s bulletin board. I created a to-do list, intern responsibilities, and snack cart location check list. Then I downloaded both full size and mini sized flyers for both Strollin’ for the Colon and Look Good Feel Better (in April) and Molly printed those for me. Following this we had lunch- Outback! Then I went upstairs and did way too much cutting and also it was my first time laminating! Then I grabbed some supplies and clear displays and decked out the entire office in both Strollin’ and LGFB flyers. I put them in bathrooms, waiting rooms, all the nooks and crannies. Then I started working on the LGFB powerpoint for Liz!
Wednesday, February 18
Happy Ash Wednesday. This morning I came into the office late because I had mass at 8am. I forgot my laptop at the house, so I ran there first. When I first arrived I did a volunteer sweep for Molly. Molly, Amy and Melissa were at a leadership conference and wouldn’t be back til around lunch, so it was just me. I made sure everything was running smoothly, asked if the volunteers needed anything, and reported back to Molly. Then I started to get to work. We had to make a presentation for LGFB and Melissa had a great template going. I reframed all of the wording on the powerpoint to explain each makeup step and application process. Then I took pictures of each product and labeled them on the powerpoint so that users knew what was what. I know they have names on them, but who knows! I then noticed they started working on a breast cancer support group logo page. I did not really love what we had so I created a new one and 3 additional story posts. The support group is on the 3rd Thursday of every month. One is tomorrow and hopefully we can post a story! Following this Molly came back and we started to work on bulletin stuff. We have a huge bulletin going up in a satellite location and I made sure we had a large printed logo and enough letters to create the message on the board as well. Lastly, we had to build a snack cart for the other location. This took a bit of elbow grease and about an hour of our time. After we loaded the cart we built we brought it downstairs and I headed out for the day.
Thursday, February 19
This morning we met at the Oconee office because we had another Strolling for the Colon meeting. These typically last around til 10. I took notes on the meeting. We went over a lot of sponsorship stuff as we already hit our goal! This allowed us to get into the nitty gritty- Melissa and I researched where to get banners, stickers, bells, etc. during this time. Following this we stayed and sat with Amy to schedule the rest of February and March posts with their captions. We left around 11:30, had lunch and met Amy at the Breast Health Building. Here we began organizing the foundation’s storage closet. This took me until about 3. A lot of boxes, moving things around, and planning old organizing. I was drained after this, but everything looked great!
Week of 2/16- 2/22 Matched with Competencies and Reflection
2.1.2: Facilitate collaborative efforts among priority populations, partners, and stakeholders
This week I participated in another Strollin’ for the Colon meeting and we discussed the upcoming Wonders and Worries event. During our Monday meeting with Amy we clarified the exact role we would be playing in the W&W event as well as our plan for Thursday. During the Thursday meeting I documented sponsorship notes and research event materials and promotional items.
2.4.2: Develop materials needed for implementation
This week i developed multiple materials including:
Strollin’ and LGFB flyers both small and large
Molly’s bulletin board of intern responsibilities and snack cart checks
Editing and finalizing the LGFB presentation
These materials support the foundation in terms of promotion and to help with our events/programs.
3.2.4: Deliver health education and promotion as designed
This week when I edited the LGFB presentation, I reframed the layout and language to better explain makeup applications. I also included visual aids to help participants understand what they are doing. In doing this, it will help with clarity and flow.
6.3.3: Tailor message(s) for audience(s)
I created and refined the captions for March posts including Strollin’ ones, National Doctors Day, Breast Cancer Support group and more. I also redesigned a story post for Breast Cancer Support Group to increase engagement at the monthly meetings.
6.4.3: Develop communication aids, materials, and tools using appropriate multimedia (e.g., infographics, presentation software, brochures, posters
This week I laminated and displayed flyers throughout the office and waiting areas, designed and created bulletin board components for all locations, built and stock snack carts for satellite location, and organized and refreshed the foundation’s storage closet. These were both physically demanding but necessary!
7.2.3 Demonstrate leadership through independent initiative and problem-solving
This week on Wednesday everyone was at the leadership conference. I independently worked by doing volunteer sweeps, made sure things were running smoothly, communication updates to Molly and Amy, as well as continued to work on my assigned tasks.
7.3.4: Manage resources efficiently and effectively
On Thursday I reorganized the foundation storage closet, sorted materials, moved boxes, and counted inventory. This helps with long term efficiency of the space.
Weekly Reflection:
This week emphasized independence and leadership. I moved beyond just content creation and into both coordination and educational material development. It was funny doing some of the brunt work. Revising the LGFB presentation helped me think outside the box and what would make patients more comfortable during then not just some of the clinical sides of things. I feel like I’m assisting.
