Week of 2/8- 2/15 Matched with Competencies and Reflection

2.1.2: Facilitate collaborative efforts among priority populations, partners, and stakeholders

This week I collaborated with Amy, Molly and Melissa to coordinate follow ups following both Breast Friends and Look Good Feel Better. This included the Breast Friends photo album.

2.3.4: Adopt, adapt, and/or develop tailored intervention(s) for priority population(s) to achieve desired outcomes.

This week we finally refined and scheduled the Strollin’ for the Colon social media posts. We also touched up the Mind over Matter support session posts. We created social media awareness materials for Triple Negative Breast Cancer and National Doctors Day.

2.4.2: Develop materials needed for implementation

I created office flyers for Strollin’ for the Colon to give to other Athens Gastro offices. We organized a content calendar and caption document all the way up until May! I assisted in volunteer onboarding videos for the 2nd floor infusion cart. All of these support program implementation.

3.2.4: Deliver health education and promotion as designed

During Look Good Feel Better, I assisted participants in using beauty products while Liz delivered instruction. I provided individualized support to an absolutely lovely lady to help her follow along with the demonstration.

6.3.3: Tailor message(s) for the audience(s)

When drafting captions for social media, Melissa and I make sure to go behind each other to ensure that captions are written appropriately and in a professional yet friendly tone for patients and caregivers. After our Monday meetings Amy typically helps us revise these too anyways.

6.5.6: Use digital media to engage audience(s)

Structured upcoming posts and prepared future posts to be scheduled.

7.1.1: Identify potential partners and stakeholders

I researched and identified five Gastroenterology offices in the Athens/Watkinsville/Oconee area. These offices are key stakeholders for Strollin’ for the Colon outreach. I visited each location in person, introduced the event, and distributed promotional flyers.

7.3.6: Provide professional development and training for staff and volunteers

I assisted in making volunteer onboarding videos for staff. Melissa and I roleplayed volunteer scenarios. We demonstrated snack cart and infusion floor procedures. This ensures when new volunteers are onboarded that they are prepared.

Reflection:

This week was incredible. Because I am a medical assistant for a Gastro office, identifying other communities similar to mine was a very full circle moment! I absolutely loved the Look Good Feel Better event. Once again, I felt like my two worlds were colliding. I absolutely love makeup and beauty, and being able to make other women feel so great just combined my passions. I continue to create social media with Melissa and really feel like we have taken off. All of our gears are going and I think we are right on track! Each week I continue to contribute meaningfully both behind the scenes and now in patient-facing experiences since event season is upon us!
