Happy Breast Friends Brunch! This was my first community/patient support related event with UCBC Cares. The lunch and learning was technically my first event, but this one actually had to do with the patients. I started off the morning by picking up Brett’s American Cuisine for the event, then made my way to hadden estates where everyone was setting up. I got there and began helping in the kitchen. Bringing out fruit to the parfait bar and filling up yogurt bags. Soon Amy realized we may not have enough food so we geared up and started calling a bunch of places. I called chick-fil-a and asked them for 50 biscuits and 10 10-count minis and they said yes! This was great because this was so last minute. I left to go handle that and came back and began putting everything in serving trays. Everything started going good and so the volunteers were able to grab a bite. Then we kind of just tidied up throughout the vent by clearing plates, replacing trashbags and making sure everyone was comfortable. We were able to enjoy most of the event as spectators. Toward the end of the event I was in charge of checking people out of the silent action with Molly. It was so amazing to see how much money people raised with our giveaways. Then we went into full clean mode once everyone left. This took a bit of time, especially the prep kitchen. I took the volunteers back to their parking spot and the catering bags to chick-fil-a and that was our first successful event.
